Default How I Make a Blade

Heres how i make a blade, but all roads lead to Rome as they say

First i mark out the handle length and overhaul length,as seen below Then set about it with a 9in angle grinder and do the profiling on the radiusmaster

Next job drill your pin holes on the tang, i always drill them 1/2mm bigger than the pin used

Then a clean up to nock off any burrs

Next job drop the grinds on,dont be to fussy as you can tidy them up after heat treat

Final clean up down to the grit you require,as it easier and softer now then after heat treat

Then the heat treat, notice i keep flicking the torch on the oil to warm it up

Next job when you can handle it, remove the blade from the veg oil and a small one like this 45 mins at 220 degrees will get it down to 58 59 rc

forgot to take pics of the colour you want it so the pic is with the cleaned up finished blade and another i made today showing the straw colour

Just a quick check with the rockwell tester and its what you want 58 59

Nice one Bernie, just watching the videos now. You should hang the bucket of water from a ceiling joist so it cannot be knocked over yet you don't have to keep bending down all the time to cool the steel. You could get an extra blade done a week by saving yourself bending over all the time! Chop chop, time is money man!

Nice one mate.

Do you ever get a bend in your blades the way you quench?
