Default UKBF Camp Knife Project

UKBF Camp Knife

Design Brief:
A large knife to 'replace' the need of carrying an axe. Suitable for camp building, firewood collection and processing, but with some versatility for finer tasks. May or may not be used in conjunction with a companion/neck knife.
Construction: Fulltang
Steel: O1

This is THE thread for the submission of designs, work in progress and completion of the above Camp Knife project.

Those makers can share there development and thoughts on the process, but please refrain from making your suggestions at this stage.

NB. Feedback on designs should be only be made once all knives have been completed unless otherwise asked for.
Open discussion can be found here: http://ukbladesforum.co.uk/forum/sho...=9966#post9966 thanks!

"Scandi grind" = Sabre grind with micro bevel!!

Makers/Designers:

Bernie Garland/Siberian Fury
FGYT (Duncan)
HillBill (Mark)

Below are the 3 proposed designs for the above project:

Bernie Garland/Siberian Fury - Leuku inspired full tang knife

Comments: Scandi ground. "The handle should have no sharp edges and must be fully smooth".

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FGYT - 'Duncmuk'

Comments: 3/16" O1 carbon steel, 20mm high thick saber grind, mini scandi and Convex secondary

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HillBill - Rambo IV inspired camp knife

Comments: Scandi & convex ground. Rounded back for draw knife work.

Blade 9"
Handle 6"
overall 15"

Not the best pictures, poor lighting. It still has a bit of cleaning up on the bevel to go yet and a sheath to make.

That is a beauty (and a beast) mate! Handle looks very comfortable too. Nice work!

isnt there a chance of it slipping out of your hand if it was wet though? being so front heavy.

just a thought.

Its not front heavy mate The balance point is less than an inch from the handle, it has a big handle (6") to make sure of it with a slight taper near the tip of the blade. It has excellent counterweight with the handle too so feels light in the hand.

Scruff has seen it in the flesh so to speak.

thought id psot up to say ive had Scruff change teh camp knife from the machettee as its really to big for the Spec (I am looking at a smaller version )

however Ive alos been looking at a larger Nessmuk and have stretched my 6" pattern on to 8" blade the Drawing above shows this but has a handles suggestion if the curves of the original are used

i think i will use the Handle of my MOD survival knife Mod teh new Nessy blade is longer than the MOD and feels good in a cardboard template

What happened to these great ideas? I so wanted to see (and even maybe try out) some of these Camp knives, as a leuku is actually my favourite all round cutting tool...
