Do you use any forge type enclosure with your torch? I borrowed a mapp gas one to try out but it seemed to take ages and was difficult to hold an even colour. An oven would be nice for accuracy and enable stainless but I plan on making a batch or two of my own charcoal for fun with the kids so I'll stick with the turbo bbq for now!

I agree about the bolster material. It wouldn't do that nice blade justice to have an oxidising bolster. Unfortunately my brass & ss is only about half as thick as you need or you'd be welcome to some.

That's looking very smart Mike.

I agree with the other Mike though and think that carbon steel isn't the right choice for the bolster. It would do your blade a disservice.

I really should give a DPH a go at some point.
