Made this blade over the weekend .can anyone tell me why this pitting happened

Overheating maybe.

How did you harden it? Charcoal forge thing?

Used a blow torch but ran out of gas and had to start again

Only thing i can think of Mike is that you have over heated the steel and burnt some carbon out of it.

is it 01?

If you were doing it outside in bright sunshine then its hard to see the colour. It looks duller than it is. I did it myself in a charcoal forge when i first started making.
