My axe turned up today, it has KB and three crowns as markings. It also has a hole right through the head! here are a few quick photos:

Initial impressions are good, axe weighs in at a little over 2lb 5oz with a nice balance in the hand.*

The head has some slight damage to the poll but nothing that will effect its performance just some evidence of use in the field.*

Today I took the power drill with a medium scotchbrite attachment to the cheeks to clean of the surface rust and left over green paint.*
And got the emory cloth and oil out for the harder to reach places.

I noticed that the toe was rounded off and had no edge on it at all.*
Decided to give the whole blade a quick once over on the oil stone.
know the toe, bit & heel have a half decent edge ok for splitting *but not nearly sharp enough for carving.

I did a little limbing on my cherry tree in the back garden which it handled with ease.*
The helve is in a reasonable condition but I find the shape a little uncomfortable in my hand.*
It has quite a oval shape to it but I prefer a slightly more rounded helve.
I will keep my eyes open for a nice piece of ash *and maybe re handle the head at a later date.*
Will let you know how it fairs when I get a chance to put through its paces in the beat future.*
